Energy Caravan

Your municipal energy consulting campaign

The Energy Caravan is a municipal energy consulting campaign designed to increase the renovation rate of private buildings.

Private buildings are responsible for more than a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions, mainly due to heating. The heating transition is thus considered one of our greatest climate protection challenges, and a significant increase in the renovation rate is essential. This is where the Energy Caravan comes into play! With this energy consulting campaign, you can actively boost your renovation rate!

Climate Alliance cooperates with fesa in the organisation and dissemination of the Energy Caravan. As a non-profit association, fesa has been the driving force behind the Energy Caravan for Germany’s Baden region. Together, the two organisations are making this successful campaign available to municipalities throughout Europe.

The Energy Caravan at a glance

The campaign’s recipe for success lies in the fact that it reverses the conventional principle of energy consulting: cities and towns select a neighbourhood and offer its residents free consultations from impartial and qualified energy consultants. The consultation takes place directly at the property and covers all building-related topics. Thanks to its neighbourhood approach, the Energy Caravan is just as suitable for small towns with fewer than 4,500 inhabitants as it is for large cities. The campaign execution follows a standardised procedure and each steps along the way is documented with customisable templates. fesa and Climate Alliance provide the know-how needed to run the campaign, supporting participating municipalities throughout all campaign phases during the first run-through and enabling cities and towns to carry out the Energy Caravan independently in the future.

The results speak for themselves

Evaluations of more than 80 campaigns prove the Energy Caravan’s success. On average, at least 25% of residents targeted take advantage of the energy consulting services on offer, 60% of whom decide to implement measures suggested. The Energy Caravan thus provides municipalities with an extremely effective approach to communicating with typically hard-to-reach homeowners and motivating them to make energy efficiency renovations. Against the backdrop of massive energy price hikes, the campaign also offers local governments an important tool for helping their citizens meet legal requirements and access government subsidies. As a communications campaign, the Energy Caravan can also support the planning of both heating networks and projects. Combined with the resulting emissions reductions, the campaign strengthens local authorities in their central role of carrying out climate protection.

“Anyone involved in climate action in their municipality should organise an Energy Caravan right at the start of their work to raise awareness and, at the same time, make climate protection tangible for citizens.”
