Climate justice

Championing fair climate action for all

We put the focus on climate action that is just.

The deepeing climate crisis exposes and exacerbates the social challenges facing our society. Vulnerable groups of people are often disproportionately affected by the impacts of the climate crisis – be they those living in poverty, the populations of developing and emerging countries, or the old and the sick. We need a fair and equitable transition that takes into account the needs and realities of all groups – locally and globally!

Inclusion is key

Climate action for all – at Climate Alliance, this means participation and cooperation. In concrete terms, we understand climate justice to mean our more than 30 year cooperation with the indigenous peoples of Amazonia and the connecting of local approaches with global responsibility. Participatory processes for the strategic integration of vulnerable population groups in Europe’s cities and towns are also very much part of just climate action. In order to make our climate strategies truly fair for all people, we can’t just talk must talk – we must also listen and seek to understand.

For cities and towns, this means finding ways to work with all groups in a community, embarking on consultation processes, fighting unfairness locally and globally and taking decisive action. Climate justice is at the core of Climate Alliance’s work. We are the only city network to put this philosophy into practice by connecting local climate action in Europe with partnerships with indigenous peoples in Amazonia. However, we also actively promote climate justice in our work in Europe, for example as coordinator of the leading EU initiative against energy poverty. Climate Alliance offers a wide range of ideas and solutions for more climate justice – locally and globally. Explore what we have to offer!

Indigenous cooperation

A partnership for the global climate

Based on shared but differentiated responsibilities, Climate Alliance focuses on strong global alliances between indigenous peoples and European regions and municipalities. You, too, can help promote more climate justice: take real responsibility for the climate with Climate Alliance’s funds for Amazonia, make use of our Climate Witnesses exhibitions to raise awareness among your citizens on climate justice, or get inspired by our members’ partnerships with indigenous peoples!
