Buildings
Boosting efficiency and renovation rates
We offer solutions in support of a building stock that is fit for the future.
Much of Europe’s building stock is inefficient. As a result, our buildings are among the main contributors to the climate crisis and drivers of energy poverty. The EU is therefore right to place a strong focus on increasing renovation rates across Europe. However, one principle must always be at the forefront: maximum energy efficiency. Without ambitious energy efficiency, our buildings will not be fit for the future – and our climate targets will be in danger.
Where does the renovation journey begin?
We need to renovate, that much is clear. Yet how should municipalities get started on this mammoth task? On the one hand, they can and must begin with their own buildings and thereby set an important example. On the other hand, the potential for energy savings is significantly higher in privately-owned building stock, but reaching private building owners is challenging. All the while, they mustn’t lose sight of energy poor households, which are typically more severely affected by the disadvantages inefficient building structures bring.
Climate Alliance is aware of the challenges inherent in building renovation and offers guidance both through project work and practical support. We offer campaigns and communication materials to address private building owners, we advocate for ambitious and clear targets at the European and at national levels, we support the fight against energy poverty as leaders of the EU’s EPAH initiative, we manage a community of practice on the topic of one-stop shops, and we provide concrete tips for energy savings. Climate Alliance campaign
Boost your renovation rate with the Energy Caravan!
The campaign principle is as simple as it is successful: municipalities offer residents in a selected neighbourhood free advice from independent and qualified energy consultants. The consultation takes place directly at the property and covers all building-related topics. Thanks to its neighbourhood-based approach, the Energy Caravan is just as suitable for towns with fewer than 4,500 inhabitants as it is for large cities. The results speak for themselves!
