CITY CYCLING
The cycling competition for your citizens
Cycling together for a better climate and to promote more cycling.
Since 2008, Climate Alliance has been inviting local politicians and citizens to switch to cycling in their communities with its CITY CYCLING campaign. By participating, they promote cycling and climate action while improving the quality of life in their communities.
How it works
Participating municipalities choose 21 days during the campaign period from May to September to run CITY CYCLING in their city or town. In teams, participants then aim to cycle as many kilometres as possible for the municipality during this period, thereby raising cycling awareness generally as well as awareness for the importance of cycle traffic planning within local councils. The most successful teams and participating municipalities are honoured each year at the campaign awards ceremony.
Improving local cycling infrastructure
CITY CYCLING also offers two additional tools for the sustainable improvement and expansion of cycling infrastructure – currently only available in Germany. The RADar! reporting platform allows citizens to flag problem areas directly to their local councils and thus actively contribute to the improvement of cycling infrastructure in their communities. The BIKE Monitor portal scientifically evaluates the cycling data from the CITY CYCLING app and provides local authorities with valuable insights for their planning.
