Become part of the Climate Alliance family

As a Climate Alliance member, you benefit from being part of Europe’s largest city network for comprehensive and fair climate action.

Our network offers numerous opportunities for exchange with municipal climate action stakeholders. Our focus on working with administrative and technical levels in local government is unique and allows us to provide valuable support for the implementation of climate protection and adaptation measures at the local level.

It all begins with a commitment

By joining our network, regions and municipalities make a voluntary commitment to comprehensive and equitable climate action. On the basis of this commitment, each member pledges to support the network’s goals in the adoption of a dedicated resolution by the municipal or regional parliament. Members are responsible for pursuing the relevant goals of their own accord – there are no related reporting requirements.

An alliance of the local level

Climate Alliance membership is open to all European municipalities, districts, regions, provinces and federal states as well as indigenous organisations of Amazonia and other rainforest regions. NGOs may also join by becoming associated members, giving them the opportunity to get involved in network activities.

Our network’s commitment

Carrying out effective, comprehensive and just climate action in line with Climate Alliance principles – fair, nature-based, local, resource-efficient and diverse.

Promoting climate justice together with indigenous peoples of Amazonia – by supporting their rights, protecting biodiversity and abstaining from the use of unsustainably managed timber.

Continually reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 10% every five years while striving for a 95% cut by 2050 as compared to 1990 levels, in line with IPCC recommendations.

You’d be hard-pressed to find another network that offers municipalities so much for so little.
